Creating & Marketing With RSS Feeds Using Tristana Writer
All Rights Reserved. Copyright Brandon Hong 2005
In my multimedia e-book "Marketing Rampage with Blogs and RSS" I recommended the free newsreader Tristana by Charlwood Marketing.
well, it ain't free anymore, because they have started charging for the software. Then again, it's priced very reasonably and really affordable at US$25.
Besides an RSS aggregator, the company has also developed a software to create RSS feeds called Tristana Writer.
I downloaded the software and tested it, and liked it a lot.
I compared Tristana Writer with FeedForAll, and this is what I found:
1. FeedForAll only lets you create RSS feeds of your existing websites. It doesn't allow you to create RSS feeds from scratch.
FeedForAll basically prompts you through a 4 step wizard and creates the RSS feed for you
Simple enough, but what if you want to create a separate RSS channel, one which is not based on any web site content but from scratch?
It can't solve the problem. This is where Tristana Writer comes in.

2. Tristana Writer, on the other hand, allows you to create RSS feeds from
a) your existing web site contents
b) a totally new, separate rss channel with your own specific category and information
c) has a interface for editing (e.g. bolding, adding hyperlinks etc)
If you are not using a Content Management System like PHP Nuke, or a blogging management system like Moveable Type and Typepad, then this way of creating separate feeds might be another alternative.
However, if you have lots of products, information or data you would like to turn into channels, then in the long term, investing in a proper content management system might be a wise idea
But for now, for the small business owner, Tristana Writer does the job well, and is recommended.

Your comments about FeedForAll are simply not true. You can easily create feeds from scratch. Personally I really like FeedForAll its the best feed creator I've used.
